The completely restored and renovated Massimo multiplex was
inaugurated on January 24, 2001 and opened to the public the
following day.
Two theatres,
the 453-seat Massimo 1 and the 147-seat Massimo 2, showcase
first releases and select, through the Circuito Cinema Company,
the best quality films from the main Italian distributors
(Bim, Mikado, Keyfilms, Lucky Red, Istituto Luce, 01 Distribuzione,
Medusa). The Massimo multiplex is one of the very few Italian
movie theatres equipped to project 70mm prints notable for
the extraordinary image definition and the excellent sound
of multi track recording. For its first anniversary in January
2002, the National Museum of Cinema has presented the 70mm
version of "Alien" (1979) by Ridley Scott. The Massimo multiplex
has also hosted the main film festivals in Torino: the Torino
Film Festival, CinemAmbiente and Sottodiciotto.
The 147-seat
Massimo 3 continues, after more than 12 years, its remarkable
programming of significant films that have shaped the history
of cinema together with retrospectives, special events, premières,
discussions with scholars, filmmakers and other industry professionals,
debates, conferences and first screenings of original versions
with subtitles or simultaneous translation.
